In 1935 on August 15 the first public library opened in Yerevan in Amiryan 26 Street. T. Barkhudaryan was        nominated the headmaster.
In 1938 the reading hall of the library was opened and gained 1100 readers.
In 1941 Garik Mkrtchyan was nominated the manager of the library.
In 1941 Marusya Abgaryan was nominated the manager of the library.
In 1949 Varvara Margaryan was nominated the headmistress of the library. And she worked until                       1992.
In 1955 the library was renamed after Avetik Isahakyan, on the 80th anniversary of the master.
In 1964 a Cultural National University was founded within the library, including 4 departments.
In 1979 by the decision of the Yerevan State executive committee on the basis of the public libraries, the        Yerevan central library system for adults was started and the library after A. Isahakyan became its central        library, having 47 brunch libraries under its supervision.
In 1992 Karine Eghiazaryan was nominated the headmistress of the library.
In 1993 the departments of art, press, foreign languages and technical literature were started.
In 1993 an auditorium for ceremonies was opened.
Since 1993 republican competitions of “Young writers and performers” have been organized.
In 1995 by the decision of the Yerevan State Executive Committee the systems of Yerevan central library for        adults and for children united in one system and the library after A. Isahakyan became its central library.
Hasmik Karapetyan was nominated the headmistress of the library.
In 1998 by the decision of the Yerevan municipality the library became the method bibliographical center of        the Yerevan Community Libraries.
In 2000 the pupils of the literary studio “The Buds” published a booklet entitled “The First Spouts”.
Since 2000 the Republican youth theatrical festival ”Pomegranate seed” has been organized by the library        and cultural – educational association “Proscenium”.
Since 2001 the library has become one of the founding members of the consortium of Armenian libraries.
Since 2002 the library has held the number of events “National Library Week”.
In 2002 by the governmental decision of November 28, the library after A. Isahakhyan was recomposed into        “The Central Library after A. Isahakyan” including its 7 brunch libraries.
Since 2004 the library has been a member of the Armenian United Libraries Automate Net project.
In April 2005 the first “American Corner” in Armenia was opened in the library, with the support of the        Embassy of the United States of America in Armenia. The American Corner is equipped with modern        facilities, enabling the library attendees use internet service free of charge. It is being supplied with new        books and periodicals.
Since 2005 a weekly movie screening for adult and children has been organized in the library.
Since 2005 a free English courses have been held in the library.
In 2005 the second booklet of the pupils of the literary studio “The Buds”- “The First Spouts” was published.
Since 2005 the theatrical children studio has been started, which participated in ”Pomegranate seed”,        “Theatrical Lori”, “Hayfest” theatrical festivals.
In april 2008 supproted by the British Council “British Center” was opened in the library also providing free        internet access.
In 2009 by the № 8741 decision of the Yerevan mayor SNCO “ City Central Library after A. Isahakyan” was        renamed CNCO “City Central Library after A. Isahakyan” with its 7 brunches.
In 2010 an “Asian Center” was opened in the brunch library in st.Baghramyan 20.
In 2010 the third booklet of the pupils of the literary studio “The Buds”- “The First Spouts” was published.
In October 2010 the City Central Library after A. Isahakyan celebrated the 75th anniversary of the        foundation of the library, the 135th anniversary of Avetik Isahakyan, the 55 anniversary of naming the        library after the master. The headmistress of the library Hasmik Karapetyan was awarded the golden        medal “Yerevan”. The deputy director of the library’s scientific field Vergush Arackelyan and the head of        the methodological department Gohar Margaryan were awarded the “Golden Medal”.
In 2011 April “Human Resources Development” Foundation (Board of Trustees President Levon Sargsyan)        donated 15 computers to the library.
In 2011 May the first internet-cafe in RA was opened in the City Central Library after Av. Isahakyan (4/1        Nalbandyan str.)
In 2011 December was the first to finish digitizing of library funds by program ALEF. Electronic directory of        the library was created.
In 2012 on April 20 “Isahakyan bookstore” opened in the City Central Library.
In 2012 on April 20 “Book Park” opened in the City Central Library.
In 2012 on May 23 by the decree of RA President S. Sargsyan to the 500 anniversary of Armenian        typography “Yerevan City Central Library after Av. Isahakyan CNCO” H. V. Karapetyan was awarded the        title of RA Honorable Figure of Culture for her contribution to the fields of literature and typography.
In 2012 on July the branch of “Isahakyan bookstore” was opened in the City Central Library Department of        Art (31/1484 Moskovyan str.)
In 2012 on September the City Central Library was the first public library in Armenia to start online service        of its readers and to realize automation of library activities.
In 2012, October “Tashir” Charitable Foundation donated 25 units of modern computers to the library.
In 2013, January Av. Isahakyan central library services and e-readers began to realize automation of library        functions. Readers can use the << Golden Chain 1 >>, << Golden Chain 2 >>, << Golden Chain 3 >>, << Golden Chain 4 >> and << Golden Chain 5 >> electronic literature        database.
In 2014, March 10 Francophone Center opened at the City Central Library after Av. Isahakyan.
In 2014 due to Yerevan Municipality the 33rd library-branch was renovated.
In 2015 due to Yerevan Municipality the branch libraries № 15(Sayat-Nova 37st.), № 21 (Bagramian 20/5),        № 28(Mamikoniants 21/47), № 29(Komitas 6/17), № 36(Nairi Zarian 19/65), the Art Literature library-       branch (Moskovian 31/184) and the Technical library-branch (Tigram Mets 30) were renovated.
In 2015 was announced to the “Year of Isahakian” under the headline “Triple Holiday of Isahakian”: The 80th        anniversary of foundation of the library, the 140th birthday anniversary of Avetiq Isahakian and the 60th        anniversary of renaming the library after Great Master will be celebrated. In 2015 the Asian Center was removed from 21st library branch to 33rd library branch.
In 2015 the 4th volume of the brochure “First Spouts” by the students of literary club “The Buds” was        published.
In 2015 the bibliographical list “City Central Library in Published Media (1935-2015)” was published.
On November 19, 2016 on the occasion of the Triple Holiday of Isahakian the deputy director of the City        Central Library after Av. Isahakian Karine Mehrabian was awarded with a gold medal of the Ministry of        Culture by the Minister of Culture of the RA Hasmik Poghosian .
In November 2015 for her significant contribution to the library, Ruzanna Barseghian, the deputy director of        the City Cntral Library after Av. Isahakyan, was awarded with a gold medal from the Mayor of Yerevan.
On April 6, 2016 by the decision 355-A of the government of the Republic of Armenia, according to the bill 116        passed on February 26, 1998 the City Central Library after A. Isahakyan was awarded with a diploma and        special award.
In 2016 on the occasion of the Day of Librarians in Armenia, the mayor of Yerevan City Taron Margarian        awarded the City Central Library librarian, the Head of the Reading Hall Klavdia Nalbandian with a Gold        Medal. Laura Zarian, leading librarian of Media department of the City Central Library after Av.        Isahakyan was presented with a Certificate of Mayor of the City for her long-term activity, publicly        beneficial and diligent work. A leading librarian of the Service Department Anahit Isakandarian and a        leading librarian of the 36th library-branch Karine’ Mkrtchian were awarded with Certificates by the        Minister of Culture of the Republic of Armenia Armen Amirian.
In 2017 “City Central Library after Av. Isahakyan” CNCO was awarded with “Karen Demirchyan” medal from        “Karen Demirchyan” foundation for effective work with the patrons.
In 2017On the occasion of “Librarian’s Day” the leading librarian of City Central Library’s Recruitment        department Rita Kirakosyan and the head of Technical Department Elmira Azaryan received certificated        from the Mayor of Yerevan Taron Margaryan
In 2017The Minister of Culture Armen Amiryan awarded the librarian of Children’s Department Armine        Petrosyan and the librarian of the Department of Organization of Work Methods Suzanna Nazaryan with        diplomas from the Ministry of Culture for the significant contribution to the sphere of libraries and long        service to the culture.
In 2017 The creation of digital catalogs for the branch libraries was finished 2018 Digital services and        automation will start in all the branch libraries of the CNCO
In 2017 For the establishment of humanitarian principles and work aimed at condemning Armenian Genocide the president of Fridtjof Nansen foundation Feliks Bakhchinyan awarded the director of City Central Library after Av. Isahakyan and Honorary Figure of Culture of RA Hasmik Karapetyan with great humanitarian and Nobel Peace Prize Winner Fridtjof Nansen gold medal.
In 2017 Signing of a cooperation agreement between “City Central Library after Av. Isahakyan” CNCO and        Mayakovsky Central City Public Library in St. Petersburg.
In 2017 Signing of a cooperation agreement between “City Central Library after Av. Isahakyan” CNCO and        the Central library of the Interregional Centralized Library System named after M. Y. Lermontov in St.        Petersburg.
In 2017 Signing of cooperation agreement 2017 to strengthening ties between Yerevan "City Central Library after Av. Isahakyan” CNCO and Moscow "Centralized Library System of Central administrative district".
In 2018 Signing of a memorandum of cooperation between “City Central Library after Av. Isahakyan” CNCO        and Lyon's Municipal Library, France.
In 2019 Arsen Fidanyan a veteran of Nagorno Karabakh war and director of "International Knights Security        Academy", Lieutenant General awarded «Tigranes the Great» medal for the Defender of Fatherland to the        director of the City Central Library after Av. Isahakyan and Honored Worker of Culture of the Republic of        Armenia Hasmik Karapetyan.

In 2019 “City Central Library after Av. Isahakyan” CNCO has been awarded the commemorative medal        dedicated to the 45th Anniversary of the Art and Literature Public University.
In 2019 Signing of a memorandum of cooperation between “City Central Library after Av. Isahakyan” CNCO        of Yerevan Municipality and "Lori Regional Library" SNCO.
In 2019 Signing of a memorandum of cooperation between “City Central Library after Av. Isahakyan” CNCO        of Yerevan Municipality and "Shirak Regional Library" SNCO.
In 2021 The City Central Library after A. Isahakyan recognized winner in the competition of “Best library        2021” for "Best Innovator Library" nomination organized by Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and        Sport of the Republic of Armenia and "Armenian Library Association" NGO

Yerevan Mayor decision No.2856 of 29 August 2023, Ruzanna Barseghyan  was appointed as acting director of the library․
