The Book Day


   On July 10, 2014 an exhibition and fair of book took place in the Misak Manoushian Park. It was devoted to the Holy translators Sahak Partev and Mesrop Mashtots memorial day. The exhibition was in the framework of Yerevan Municipality’s “Yerevan Summer 2014” program. All the bookstores, publishing houses, libraries and of course booklovers were present. The exhibition included literature for children, students, professional and foreign literature. The Deputy Mayor of Yerevan Aram Sahakian, who conveyed Yerevan’s Mayor Taron Margarian’s message to the public, explained in his speech that the aim of this enterprise was to emphasize once again the huge role that these two people have had in the development of the Armenian translating school. He added that the second important role of this exhibition – fair was to represent the new books to the reader and help them to acquire those books more easily. He continued and said that Armenians are greatly interested in books, in reading and there is no surprise that in 2012 Yerevan was chosen to be the capital of the book and during this period of time many interesting took place. The fair was accompanied by musical numbers. The audience witnessed a beautiful music performance by Ararat Patriarchal Diocese’s “Tsakhkazard” chore. Some magnificent patterns of Armenian literature were recited by reciters Gayaneh Samvelian, Arsine Navasrdian, Aida Asaturian, Lousine Hambarian, Anush Galstian and others. The celebration continued till late at night.
