A meeting with an American-Armenian playwright, writer, national-cultural activist Hrand Margaryan was held at Central library after Av. Isahakyan and there was a presentation of his book “The martyred Armenian writers 1915-1922; An Anthology”. The author presents the life and literary career of 13 Armenian writers who were martyred in the genocide. According to the author, the main purpose of the book is to make the new generation of Diaspora, as well as the English-speaking community aware of 20 century’s greatest crime, the Armenian Genocide. Hrand Margaryan has allocated a special section in his book to the prison sites where the Armenian intellectuals were sent from Constantinople, whom they subjected to a cruel slaughter and beheaded a whole nation. The event began with the opening speech by the CNCO headmaster of Central library after Av. Isahakyan and honored activist of culture Hasmik Karapetyan, who once again stated the need and the importance of translating the existing literature about Armenian Genocide into other languages. She also acknowledged the tremendous work done by Hrand Margaryan, encouraging not to stop and to continue the extremely important task. Afterwards the book was presented by the literary critic, doctor of philological sciences, head of “Diaspora” scientific-educational center Suren Danielyan. Poet, the head of “Writers’ union of Armenia” Eduard Militonyan, writer, film critic, the president of the National Academy of Armenian film, the rector of the Institute of Theatre and Cinema in Yerevan, professor at the same institute, Armenia’s distinguished activist David Muradyan congratulated the author and gave a speech about the importance of the book. Hrand Margaryan presented some unpublished facts about martyred Armenian writers’ lives to the reading audience and guests. The book presentation was like a unique lecture that didn’t get disturbed even by the heat. Poet, translator, literary critic Artem Harutyunyan read and simultaneously translated English excerpts from the book. Narine Galstyan, the chairwoman of the ARS Regional Committee of Armenia, gave a speech of gratitude and passed the board’s appreciation. Actress Gayane Samvelyan and Syrian-Armenian teachers Tiruhi Karapetyan, Shaqe Aschyan-Artsivyan and Lucyn Kazanchyan-Kurdikyan read Siamanto’s “Strangled”, “The Dance”, Daniel Varujan’s “Worker”, Ruben Sevak’s “Madman of The Massacres” and other works.
