Since 2008, February 19, which is the birthday of Hovhannes Tumanyan, is celebrated as a Book Giving Day. And it not a surprise that Tumanyan’s birthday was chosen for the special occasion. Many of us got acquainted with books due to Tumanyan’s tales, children's poems, quatrain and poems. This day aims to boost the love towards reading, to transfer the culture of reading to the new generation. It is a day to give someone emotions and knowledge, literature and spiritual-cultural values in the form of a book. Books teach us to love and kindness towards a stranger, friend, parent, motherland, beauty and perfection. It reminds us of the books should be valued, read and, if not very often, at least once in a year gifted. The City Central Library after Av. Isahakyan has a beautiful tradition for the day. For many years the library is surprising its visitors with present books. In the frame of the event “A gift from the library….” the visitors received both classic and contemporary books. The day continued at the auditorium of the library, where the students of “Hekiat” center for kids presented a performance based on Tumanyan’s writings, called “I’m always with you and in you”. Within the framework of the "Book Giving Days" program, the City Central Library after Av. Isahakyan displayed the personal fund of Levon Galstanyan, YSPU Associate Professor, Head of the Department of Television and Journalism. The library is rich with friends who have donated many books to the library throughout the year. For their contribution to the library the director of the library, Honored Culture Worker of the Republic of Armenia Hasmik Karapetyan, presented letters of gratitude to the friends of the library, including literary critic Armen Avanesyan, “Moscow House” Cultural Center (General Director Vahram Karapetyan), president of “Lori Gorge” patriotic union, Professor of Philological sciences Sergo Yeritsyan, literary critic and president of “Fridtjof Nansen” Foundation Felix Bakhchinyan, Anahit Hovhannisyan and others. Academician Henrik Hovhannisyan congratulated the readers on this special day. The guests of the library were the 5th and 6th grade students of N 2 Qasakh middle school. The 5th grade students of N 19 School after Nikol Aghbalyan, accompanied by their teacher Jasmin Gevorgyan, had prepared a surprise. They brought books as gifts to send to our soldiers with the library’s help. Throughout the day, videos dedicated to Hovhannes Tumanyan were shown at the library's lobby.
