On April 8, within the framework of the "National Library Week" program, at the City Central Library after Av. Isahakyan, in cooperation with the US Embassy in Armenia,took place Reading Marathon.The marathon was opened by director of the City Central Library after Av. Isahakyan, Honored Cultural Worker of the Republic of Armenia Hasmik Karapetyan.She highlighted the great role of this joint event in the promotion of literature, culture, education and reading, as well as in the literary-cultural cooperation between the two countries.The reading book of this year was “The Black Dog Of Fate” by American-Armenian writer, Pulitzer Prize winner Peter Balakian.It gives an opportunity to present to the world the history of the Armenian Genocide.U.S. Ambassador to Armenia Lynne Tracy,Yerevan Mayor Hrachya Sargsyan,the head of Kentron administrative district Avet Poghosyan,as well as art, cultural figures, famous intellectuals, representatives of regional libraries an readers took part in the reading marathon and read excerpts from the book.US Ambassador to Armenia Lynne Tracy and Yerevan Mayor Hrachya Sargsyan listened to the concert program organized in the Isahakyan Library Hall.The participants of the marathon highly appreciated this annual program implemented jointly with the US Embassy, evaluating it as an effective way to encourage the promotion of reading books, literature, as well as to popularize high universal values.
